European House Roof Types
Two basic roof styles can usually be found on a European house, a basic hip roof that is generally steeper that an average hipped roof and some times a Mansard roof, sometimes found on this home style, but more often seen a Victorian home.
Basic Hipped Roof
A hipped roof has four roof faces that rise to meet the ridge along the top, more often with broader faces across the front slope and narrower side sections.
Basic Mansard Roof
Mansard roofs have two slopes on each of the four sides. The lower slope is steeper than the upper slope. Gabled dormers are often built into the lower slope. The upper slope of the mansard roof is generally not visible from the ground.
